Initially, most people choose to study Hakomi for the purpose of self-discovery. The workshops best suited for this are Exploring Hakomi or the Personhood Series. Exploring Hakomi is a multiple evening format. The Personhood Series are weekend workshops titled: Loving Presence, Quieting the Mind, Emotional Nourishment or Nonverbal Communication.
Individuals who are interested in a deeper understanding of the techniques and methods of Hakomi or who would like to use Hakomi to assist others may wish to join the ongoing Edmonton training. The Hakomi Experiential Method Practice and Applied Levels are studied in weekend sessions over several years.
Certification as a Hakomi practitioner is available after extended study and supervision by senior Hakomi trainers.
Hakomi Alberta workshops use a multi-level learning experience combining new, continuing and advanced students in the same class. Each session presents a holistic view of the Hakomi Experiential Method. There will be short lectures, discussions, and demonstrations. But mostly, the group will learn experientially by doing exercises designed to convey the foundational principles of Hakomi.
There is a strong focus on the importance of personhood and the state of mind/being of the therapist or helper. The approach is based on the belief that the presence and “beingness” of the helper is the key to his or her effectiveness in a helping role, which might be psychotherapy, bodywork, social work, teaching, or any other professional or personal situation.
